Bachelor of Science in Biology, Conservation Management, and Secondary Education, Upper Iowa University
Vicki Anderson started teaching in 2004 and joined Iowa Connections Academy in 2022. She teaches 9-12 Science, Biology, Astronomy, Anatomy and Physiology.
Why She Became a Teacher
According to Ms. Anderson, “I wanted to use my science background in everyday life while making a difference in the world.
“I enjoy teaching students in a way that encourages them to be independent. . . . I also enjoy our field trips, especially when students and families are able to get together and simply enjoy small talk.”
The Online School Experience at Iowa Connections Academy
Reports Ms. Anderson, “Iowa Connections Academy helps students grow to become self-starters. In this model, they’re . . . at home with a lot of flexibility, but they still need to be accountable for their own success. Students will be prepared for an ever-changing, fast-paced world where learning and technology go hand in hand.”
Message for Families Considering Online School
If there’s one thing Ms. Anderson would tell parents thinking of enrolling a child in this school, it’s that “Iowa Connections Academy is a way to have the benefits of online education while having teacher and administrative support that mirrors the structure of a brick-and-mortar school.”
[At Iowa Connections Academy] . . . students can do their work from almost anywhere at any time of the day.
